Happy New Year!

Happy new year everyone. Just thought I would take this opportunity to say thanks for downloading Cannibal Holocaust the Horrorgrind Cut. I uploaded it to Demonoid one week ago today, and it has been downloaded 125 times.. much more than my H1000C edit. I hope everyone has enjoyed what I've done so far and thank you for all the kind words I've received!

Soon I will have more info on my next project. Please don't be surprised if this one takes much longer to edit than the previous ones. I want to take it slow for a while and really think about what I want to do with it before I attempt any cutting. As always, I will keep you posted.

Cannibal Holocaust: The Horrorgrind Cut

Ruggero Deodato's Cannibal Holocaust
The Horrorgrind Cut

Status:
Completed
Percent Completed: 100%

Original Runtime: 1 hour 30 minutes
New Runtime: 42 minutes

Description:
I have always thought that Cannibal Holocaust could easily be split into two films. So when I started Horrorgrind Home Video, one of the first films on my list to fanedit was this one. My goal with this edit was to focus almost entirely on the documentary footage taken by the four filmmakers and cut out all of Professor Monroe's journey into the Jungle. I wanted it to appear as though the footage recovered from the jungle was authentic, the deaths were authentic, and the brutality authentic.
Professor Monroe's role in the film has been altered to just an audience member watching the horrific footage. All the other scenes of him have been removed. What we are left with is a much shorter, and hopefully more realistic experience.

Changes:
- Removed all scenes with Professor Monroe except for his viewing of the footage in the theater with the television producers and when he walks out of the building at the end.
/ Moved the opening title to after the news anchors report on Alan and the others never returning.
- Removed many scenes of interviews with the film makers' friends and family.
- Removed the scene of the forced abortion. This was done to put more focus on the brutality of the film makers and less on the natives.

change of plans.

Don't worry, Cannibal Holocaust is progressing smoothly. In fact...

Release date for Cannibal Holocaust The Horrorgrind Cut: December 24th

Told you it would be out before Christmas. haha. The only thing I have left to do is finish up the menus and create the DVD art. I'm still learning DVD Lab Pro so bear with me. I think that what I have put together will be pretty well done. I don't want to half-ass anything. I'm kind of anal about stuff like that. That's the main reason why I wanted to go back and fix my House of 1000 Corpses edit.
I know I brought up the House of 1000 corpses re-re-edit last time, but right after I had posted it, Retro Horror Remix emails me and tells me that he just finished doing the exact same thing to his H1000C edit. So, I think it's best to just put that on hold. My H1000C edit just came out anyway. Don't want to rush things. Looking forward to RHR's version though. Hopefully there will be some kind of collaboration project between us some time in the future.
Also, the release date for the Fanedit.org's Zombie Consecution Project has been announced as around January 20th. Make sure you check it out.

good news and bad news.

The bad news:
Gonna need a little longer on Cannibal Holocaust. Sorry guys. It will definitely be out before Christmas.

The good news:
I've decided to really go for quality on this one. DVD menu, Cover art, everything.

Not only that, I'm giving the same treatment to House of 1000 Corpses. I've been working on some Cover and Disc artwork in photoshop lately and I think it turned out pretty good. A new version of House of 1000 corpses will be coming soon. I plan on capturing some authentic VHS deterioration and audio glitches. I also plan on re-re-editing the movie to change some things. I feel that it can be better. So as soon as Cannibal Holocaust is out, I'm going to get started on H1000C: The Horrorgrind Special Edition. Look for Cannibal Holocaust some time this month.

Also, I've entered an 11 minute short to Fanedit.org's Zombie Consecution Project. Don't worry, if it doesn't get used, It will still be released here some time in the future.

The Holocaust is coming!

Here's the first media release for Cannibal Holocaust, the Horrorgrind Cut. As mentioned previously, it will not be done in VHS style like the last one. However, it will contain a DVD menu, and some trailers. I'm still deciding what else will be on the DVD, so if you have any suggestions, let me hear it!

This edit will be roughly 40-45 minutes long. When I initially started cutting, I was removing scenes that I didn't want to watch. I realized that this was a bad idea. This is a classic movie notorious for being more graphic and controversial than any film prior to it. My intention is not to censor this movie, but to present it differently and in a shorter form than the original. There are still some small parts that I plan on restoring before the final release.

My planned release date is December 17th, but that is not set in stone. Keep checking back!

Also, check out the great review my House of 1000 Corpses received from Retro Horror Remix!
Thanks Dustin!

A small update.

Hey guys. I plan on reviewing RHR's latest release, Tales from the Crypt The Unseen Season in the near future. Wow. I have great memories of this show. I'm currently tracking down the 3 movies so I can review them properly. Should be a lot of fun to watch this again. On another note, the first review of House of 1000 Corpses Horrorgrind Cut is out. Take a look.

"I have to say, this is definitely a decent edit. Not quite VHS (little too much grain, not enough "VHS" - it gets a bit pixely at times). There's a lot of nice touches. Sometimes the over-saturation is a bit much - but honestly, that's one of those things that makes me like it that much more. The way the colors bleed, making the picture and color -just- off enough. In a good, artsy-kinda way. The musical changes, awesome. Definitely can't complain. The story flows well. Personally, I like the cut at the beginning when they first arrive at Spaulding's. Very vague, very "huh, wonder what the hell this crazy clown is all about..." All in all, a damn good edit. As was already said before, it could have looked a little more VHS (a-la say... those lines at the bottom of the screen that VHS tapes get over the years - what's that called? You know, where the bottom part kinda bends and smears to the right a bit). Maybe add some parts where it looks like the tape was eaten a little - you know how those old VHS "adult films" got from fast forwarding and re-watching the same parts again and again. ;) Or maybe that's just me. How would one even re-create that without transferring to VHS and then back again (as was suggested)? I don't know that it can be done without doing that. But I digress. A fine edit indeed, and a nice companion piece to the original. Can't wait for Cannibal Holocaust. ;D

--Quality--

Video: 2.5 / 5 - it's pretty bad - BUT, 4 / 5 - if we're talking personal taste, art-wise, etc.

Audio:
4.5 / 5 - DVD audio, noticed a few odd audio cuts, maybe a fade could have been used, and so on, but overall it was good (a little too good, needed that crappy VHS mono-esque sound to it!) ;)

Entertainment:
5 / 5 - I liked the style, the music, the overall story, and it was just short enough not to be annoying or get old. I liked it, what can I say. Definitely not everyone's cup of tea (matter of fact, I can see this being not very popular) - but hey, like RHR, at least you got one person on your side hehe ;)"

I'm definitely going to look for some kind of capture card or something that allows me to capture VHS to DV. Something like this could really add to my edits in my opinion. Does anyone have any suggestions? Send them my way please. :}

A little about my next project..

Well, my torrent has completed downloading 22 times.  I hope everyone who has watched it so far enjoyed it.  So what's next for Horrorgrind?  Well, I'm just wrapping up my second edit, Cannibal Holocaust.  I don't want to give away much, but here is what I can say as of now.  It will not be done in the "VHS" style like the last one.  I wanted to make it appear less like a movie, and more like you are watching the original film reels salvaged from the jungle, while retaining the underlying theme of the movie.  No filters or effects will be added and the quality will be the same as the official DVD.  Don't worry, there will be other VHS editions in the future.  I have at least one movie in mind that I can't wait to do in vintage VHS.  If you haven't seen them already, check out RHR's Vintage VHS Editions

I will post more info about Cannibal Holocaust later, as well as the artwork and trailer as the release date draws near.  Expect it to be out mid-December.  Keep checking back!

And please, if you have the time, give me some feedback on House of 1000 Corpses. I really appreciate it :}

Hope you enjoy the first release from Horrorgrind Home Video!  Don't forget to copy it to an old VHS tape for maximum enjoyment.  There is a trailer for my next project at the start of the film :}  Expect it some time before Christmas.  As for this blog, it will be updated all the time.  Keep checking back!

Enjoy the film!

House of 1000 Corpses: The Horrorgrind Cut VHS Edition

Rob Zombie's House of 1000 Corpses
The Horrorgrind Cut VHS Edition

Status: Completed
Percent Completed: 100%

Original Runtime: 1 hour 29 minutes
New Runtime: 52 minutes

Description:
After watching Retro Horror Remix's Vintage VHS version of the film, I was inspired to make this fanedit.
I think his Vintage VHS idea is fantastic and can really give you a nostalgic feeling that DVD quality can't deliver.
However, I felt that his release, at just 32 minutes, was missing something.
My goal was to cut the movie down to about 45 minutes of pure horror, without removing scenes that were crucial to the plot.
The Captain Spaulding character is possibly my favorite horror character of all time.
So naturally, I had to leave him in the film.
The final streamlined version of this fanedit weighs in at about 50 minutes, so I came pretty close to my goal.
To add to the vintage appeal of this version of the film, I replaced many of the songs with 1980's heavy metal White Zombie tracks.
All in all, I think it makes the movie seem more like it was released 20 years ago, which was my intention.
Hope you enjoy the film!

I want to give a special thanks to Retro Horror Remix for inspiring me to do this.
I am a big fan of his, and no insult was intended by making this version.

Frequently Asked Questions

Welcome to the Horrorgrind Home Video! My goal is to fanedit dozens of horror, gore, and exploitation films, new and old, cutting them down to roughly 45 minutes to 1 hour of pure terror without sacrificing the plot. True horror at its purest form, with no filler.

Aren't you just a ripoff of Retro Horror Remix?
The short answer: Yes.
After watching RHR's version of House of 1000 Corpses, I was inspired to make my own fanedit of the film. I felt his vintage VHS idea was great, but the film was maybe too short. I made an edit of the movie for my own enjoyment, copied it on to an old worn VHS tape, and loved it. I thought it was good enough to share.  I apologize to Retro Horror Remix for ripping off his idea. No insult was intended.

How can I download?
The fanedits will be released as full DVDs through a torrent posted on http://www.demonoid.com. Links to the torrent will be posted here on this blog. Don't forget to bookmark this page or subscribe to my RSS feed!
Sorry, but as of now, torrents are the only way to download them.

VHS Edition?  I think I'll pass.
Yep, this version is obviously not for everyone. If you like the idea of enjoying it for the "What if?" factor or for a nostalgic experience, by all means give it a shot.  I want to present them as though they were released on a retro VHS tape so you may experience the nostalgic feeling that DVD quality simply can't deliver. Keep in mind that the sources I use are from the DVD versions of the films. They are not VHS rips.

Do you actually release them on VHS?
No no no no no... you have to copy it to VHS yourself. Trust me, you'll enjoy it more that way. If your VCR has RCA ports on it, plug yor DVD player into it, play the DVD, hit record, make note of the runtime, turn your TV off for a while, and be sure to stop it when the movie ends. Rewind, and enjoy.

When's the next one coming out/What will the next movie be?
I'll keep you posted on everything you need to know here on this blog. Please bookmark and subscribe to my RSS feed!

Will you do <film title> next? Please please please?
Probably not, but maybe!  I am doing these for myself more so than anyone else, but that doesn't mean I'm not open to suggestions.  Please email your ideas to me!

Your edits suck/kick ass!
