"I have to say, this is definitely a decent edit. Not quite VHS (little too much grain, not enough "VHS" - it gets a bit pixely at times). There's a lot of nice touches. Sometimes the over-saturation is a bit much - but honestly, that's one of those things that makes me like it that much more. The way the colors bleed, making the picture and color -just- off enough. In a good, artsy-kinda way. The musical changes, awesome. Definitely can't complain. The story flows well. Personally, I like the cut at the beginning when they first arrive at Spaulding's. Very vague, very "huh, wonder what the hell this crazy clown is all about..." All in all, a damn good edit. As was already said before, it could have looked a little more VHS (a-la say... those lines at the bottom of the screen that VHS tapes get over the years - what's that called? You know, where the bottom part kinda bends and smears to the right a bit). Maybe add some parts where it looks like the tape was eaten a little - you know how those old VHS "adult films" got from fast forwarding and re-watching the same parts again and again. ;) Or maybe that's just me. How would one even re-create that without transferring to VHS and then back again (as was suggested)? I don't know that it can be done without doing that. But I digress. A fine edit indeed, and a nice companion piece to the original. Can't wait for Cannibal Holocaust. ;D
--Quality--
Video: 2.5 / 5 - it's pretty bad - BUT, 4 / 5 - if we're talking personal taste, art-wise, etc.
Audio:
4.5 / 5 - DVD audio, noticed a few odd audio cuts, maybe a fade could have been used, and so on, but overall it was good (a little too good, needed that crappy VHS mono-esque sound to it!) ;)
Entertainment:
5 / 5 - I liked the style, the music, the overall story, and it was just short enough not to be annoying or get old. I liked it, what can I say. Definitely not everyone's cup of tea (matter of fact, I can see this being not very popular) - but hey, like RHR, at least you got one person on your side hehe ;)"
I'm definitely going to look for some kind of capture card or something that allows me to capture VHS to DV. Something like this could really add to my edits in my opinion. Does anyone have any suggestions? Send them my way please. :}
